Where a firm's logo gets used
A law firm's logo is read most on paper: the letterhead, the cost agreement, the invoice and the documents a client signs. After that it is the email signature on every piece of correspondence and the plate beside the door.
Paper that goes through an office printer and a scanner loses fine detail, so the legal set is built on firm serifs and clean capitals. The seal lockup is the one to check at small sizes, since its double ring is the first thing to close up.
Partners' names
Firms named after partners often have two or three surnames joined by an ampersand, which makes a long name. Type the full name above to see how each lockup handles it. The split lockup sets the name either side of an upright rule, and the chambers lockup sets a long name in small capitals between two rules.
The letterhead
Our legal kits carry the logo onto an A4 letterhead, a business card and an email signature, with a guidelines document that sets out the type and colours for anyone preparing documents for the firm.
Questions
- Will the logo work on a black and white printer?
- Try it in the editor with the ink set to black before you buy. The SVG and PDF files keep text and shapes sharp at any size a printer uses.
- Does a law firm logo come with an email signature?
- The kits include one: an HTML file in your colours with the steps for Gmail and Outlook.
